What We Believe

Lakeside's Statement of Principle and Purpose was adopted in 1993

and revised in 2003 and again in 2006.

We the members of Lakeside Baptist Church are people on a journey of faith who seek to deal with questions of life openly and honestly. Our faith is in God who is revealed to us in Jesus Christ and who sustains us by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the quality of our lives is enhanced by our commitment to Jesus Christ. Through our worship, our Christian education, and our mission outreach, we seek to help persons discover who they are and explore their faith rather than prescribe what they should believe.

We are a church committed to the historic Baptist principles of the competence of the individual before God and the autonomy of each congregation to shape its own life and mission, call its own leadership, and ordain whom it perceives as gifted for the ministry.

We seek to demonstrate an ecumenical and inclusive spirit and we welcome into our membership persons from other Christian denominations, affirming their baptism and their Christian experience.

We encourage our members to express their Christian faith by an active citizenship and by becoming involved in the many community organizations that convey God's love to others.

In order to reach beyond our community, we cooperate with The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Alliance of Baptists, and we support selected ministries of other Baptist groups. We believe that our attempt to be followers of Jesus Christ transcends denominational connection and in that spirit we welcome opportunities for cooperation with other groups in the demonstration of God's love for all persons.
