Jody C. Wright
Dr. Wright is a native of Chester, South Carolina, and a graduate of Furman University (B.A. 1981), The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div. 1984), and Princeton Theological Seminary (D.Min. Prin. 2000). He served as the Assistant Minister of First Baptist Church, Savannah, Georgia, and as Pastor of The Warrenton Baptist Church, Warrenton, North Carolina, prior to coming to Lakeside in 1998. His wife Deborah, also a native South Carolinian and graduate of Furman, is a former teacher and reading tutor, and recently served as the Medication Coordinator for the Tar River Mission Clinic. The Wrights have two children, Catherine, a graduate of Wake Forest University who lives in New York City, and Robert, a graduate of Campbell University. Robert, his wife Lenka, and their daughters, Savannah and Holly, live in Kosice, Slovakia.
Elizabeth J. Edwards
Reverend Edwards is a native of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and a graduate of Wake Forest University (B.A., '93) and Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div, '97). She has served internships at churches in Winston-Salem and Davidson County, NC, and in Princeton, NJ, and the Pilot Mountain Baptist Associate in Winston-Salem. She was ordained in 1996 and served as Associate Minister of Rosemary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, as Executive Director of Christian Women's Job Corps of NC, and has served as Associate Minister of Lakeside since February 2002. For over twenty years, Elizabeth has been passionate about helping young people to identify and nurture their gifts and talents and find ways to put them to work in the church and community.
Elizabeth and her husband Mark, who is an Elder Law Attorney in Nashville, NC, where they reside, have two sons, Spencer and Daniel. She enjoys playing flute, cooking, writing and cheering on her Demon Deacons.
Amy C. Shortt
Minister of Music
Amy Shortt holds a Masters Degree in Sacred Music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, NJ where she studied conducting with Timothy Brown from Clare College, Cambridge. While at Westminster, Ms. Shortt sang under the direction of Dale Warland, James Jordan, Joseph Flummerfelt and Andrew Megill and performed in a nation wide touring choir with Andrea Bocelli and Denyce Graves. She has performed in Carnegie Hall with some of the world's leading orchestras including The New York Philharmonic, The Dresden Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic. She earned a BA degree in Piano Performance from Averett University in Danville, VA. Ms. Short is an educator and has experience teaching both elementary and secondary levels. She has been invited as guest conductor and clinician for Fine Arts Festivals and Governor's School in Virginia. She has served as music director in churches in Virginia, New Jersey and Kansas.
As Minister of Music at Lakeside Church in Rocky Mount, NC, she oversees and directs a graded choral program from Pre-K to Senior Adults. Under her creative leadership, the Chancel Choir has performed James Whitbourne's Son of God Mass, Handel's Messiah, Camille Saint-Saens' Christmas Oratorio and Vivaldi's Gloria. The choir is often accompanied by instrumentalists from the North Carolina Symphony including concert master, Brian Reagan. In addition to major works performed, the 30 voice all volunteer choir performs weekly a vast range of music from chant to canticles to anthems by Tallis and Bach to more contemporary composers such as Leo Sowerby, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and John Rutter.
Ms. Shortt's passion is teaching choirs proper vocal technique, bringing people together to make music that is not only technically correct but also communicates ideas and emotions- music from the heart.
Senior Adult Director
Susan is a native of Rocky Mount and a graduate of Meredith College. After 22 years as an educator, Susan joined the Lakeside staff as Coordinator of Senior Adult Activities in 2005. She enjoys planning day trips, luncheons, tours and parties to keep up with the Topnotchers, the active senior adult members at Lakeside. Susan and her husband, Berkley, a local builder and developer, have two grown children, Carrington and Katie, and have been members at Lakeside for more than 25 years.
Linda is a native of Rocky Mount and grew up at Lakeside. After being away from Rocky Mount for many years and working in various fields, mostly medical offices, she joined the Lakeside staff in 2005 as Administrative Assistant and is responsible for managing the office. Linda holds an Associate in Arts Degree from Nash Community College and is married to Dan, a minister. They have four children - Boone, Andy, Cindy and Adam - and seven grandchildren - Elli, Mac, Owen, Sadie, Dyson, Tristan and Joshua.
Elizabeth Broomell (Liz)
Liz is a native of Ohio. She and her husband, Phil, moved to Rocky Mount in 2006. They have four children - Alex, Jack, Tyler and Lauren. Liz is an active member of West Haven Presbyterian Church where she is a member of the handbell choir along with her son, Alex. Liz's family is very involved in Boy Scouts as members of Troop 11 and Cub Scouts Pack 11. In her spare time, Liz enjoys spending time with her children and reading.
Rachel is a former preschool teacher, has worked with the Down East Partnership for Children, and has volunteered throughout our community. A graduate of N.C. State University, she is a native of Virginia. She and her husband Wayne have three children, all of whom have “graduated” from our preschool.
Milton is new to Lakeside in 2017. He is a native of Tillery, NC, but moved to Washington, DC at the age of 18. During his years in Washington, Milton worked as a mover and later as a church custodian. He worked at St. Albin Parish next door to the Washington Cathedral. He also worked at St. John's Parish, next to the White House. Milton returned to Enfield in 2010.
