MUSIC AT LAKESIDE
Lakeside recognizes the importance of music and is proud of its tradition of musical excellence. Vocal and Bell choirs at Lakeside provide opportunities to express our faith through music. In addition to vital congregational singing, carefully selected and rehearsed anthems are prepared in weekly rehearsals by vocal and handbell choirs of all ages. Participation has several benefits beyond increasing musical skills, benefits which include a sense of community, a deepening of one's faith, a sense of leadership and purpose, and a fuller connection to the life of the church. All are welcome to find a place in the music ministry at Lakeside.
Amy Shortt, our Minister of Music, is a graduate of Averett College and Westminster Choir College. She has extensive experience in conducting choral groups. Her passion is “helping people make music.” Amy came to Lakeside in September 2010.
Mark Pichowicz, organist, completed his undergraduate work at Duquesne University. He earned his MAster of Music in Organ Performance from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He has over twenty years of church music experience and has been at Lakeside since November 2015.
In 1995, when the church's facilities underwent major renovation, a new music suite for choir and handbells was constructed. On September 23, 2007, it was dedicated as the “Barbara Bone Biggs Music Suite” in honor of Barbara Biggs who had served in our music program in a variety of capacities for over fifty years. Mrs. Biggs died in 2006.
